What to do when you suspect Spyware infection

Here are some steps you can take to tackle the problem. It will not work in all cases because some infections have such a good self-defense mechanism that they need more advanced methods to deal with them.

However this will give you a chance to handle them.

First, download Spybot Search and Destroy from: http://filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy (click on the download latest version). Save it on your desktop.
Install it. If you can’t install it, or it’s so slow that it never seems to finish then. Start the computer in Safe Mode by restarting it and pressing F8 before the Windows logo would appear (if you miss the moment, restart the computer and try again).
If you can, update Spybot’s database (it requires an internet connection so you can only do that in Normal Mode, or Safe Mode With Networking). If you can’t update then still try to follow through the rest of the steps.
Start the computer to Safe Mode with Command Promt. This is the mode when only the absolutely minimal set of software is loaded thus avoiding loading the components of the unwanted software.
You will get a black window in this mode. Type in there the following exactly: “c:\Program Files\Spybot – Search & Destroy\sdmain.exe” (including the quotation marks). And press the Enter key.
When Spybot got started click on the Check for Problems button. Let it run through the check. When it finished click on the Fix Selected Problems button. If it tells you that it couldn’t remove some of these and needs to do a check at the next startup then select yes.
Start the computer normally.

That’s the basic procedure. If you happen to have a very resistant infection just call us and we will take care of it.
