An Advanced Tool to Combat Unwanted SoftwarePosted on: March 16th, 2010 We had the fair share of cleaning up computers in the recent epidemic of fake antiviruses. Along with these fake security software came a host of actual viruses and rootkits (Click here for a definition). These made them very hard to remove. So we had to dig further and find another tools to keep up with the problem. In this process we came across a software that proved to be very efficient and was able to handle cases that others failed. The name of this software is ComboFix. Here’s the page that describes it and contains the links to download it: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix This describes it quite well. It comes with some disclaimers and we should call attention to those as well. This tool should be used with caution. I’d recommend it just as a last resort. Before using this try the other remedies that are listed here: http://www.computerwizardindy.com/dealing-with-fake-antivirus-messages/ We tested this software on about a dozen machines so far with excellent results.
